Andy Frew, ASA, ABV will be speaking at the MNCPA Business Valuation Conference on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, in Bloomington, Minnesota.
Andy will be presenting two sessions at the conference. His first session is titled “The Business Valuation Profession Today” and will explore the dynamic landscape of the business valuation profession, current trends, and challenges and opportunities that are shaping its future. He’ll provide information on the current size of the profession, the average age of business appraisers, and what that means for the future.
His second session will cover “Estate Planning Topics of Interest Today.” Andy will delve into how attorneys evaluate and use valuation reports, focusing on what attorneys are particularly keen on when scrutinizing these reports. He’ll provide an overview of the estate planning valuation field, with a special emphasis on the controversies that are currently shaping the narrative, from debates on discount rates, and marketability and control adjustments to the role of tax-affecting in valuations. He will also give insight into the courts’ perspectives on these controversies by analyzing recent legal cases and IRS challenges.
Andy has over 20 years of business valuation experience. He has been involved with hundreds of valuation and related engagements in numerous industries. He values businesses and business interests for financial reporting, gift and estate tax, corporate tax, corporate M&A, and employee stock ownership plan purposes. As part of his financial reporting practice, he provides public and private clients with fair value opinions and related assistance pertaining to goodwill and other intangible assets, stock-based compensation, and illiquid financial assets. Noteworthy industry experience includes the oil and gas (specifically upstream/E&P), oilfield services, and auto dealership industries. As a member of the firm’s Energy Industry Team, Andy is a regular contributor to Mercer Capital’s Energy Valuation Insights Blog.
